The Founding of HomeTown Club
During a casual conversation sometime in February 2009 Bill Bennett and Bill Losey were talking about the inordinate number of local merchants closing down and going out of business. They also noticed that the merchants left had signs in their window offering discounts to anyone who would stop in to do business.
Bill Bennett mentioned that there was an opportunity for an entrepreneur to offer a discount card to consumers who would then shop at one of the participating local merchants. This one conversation turned out to be the seed that has developed and grown in to HomeTown Club.
HomeTown Club is a community-wide program designed to help local merchants, families, community-based organizations (such as churches, schools, youth sports, animal rescue groups) as well as charitable groups focusing on individual children or families.
The company was founded in 2009 and went online 2010.
We provide merchants with low cost effect marketing program that includes an online directory, coupons, calendar, access to post items on our online classified section and banner ad.
A consumer membership includes a discount card, online coupons, merchant invitations for free merchandise and services, access to post items on our online Yard Sale, eligible for prizes from our weekly drawings.
Community organizations are listed in our online directory; they can sell HomeTown Club memberships as a fund raiser and have use of our online calendar. This is an ongoing fund raising opportunity because they get full credit for membership renewals.
Charities – We select charities from nominations by our members and merchants. Our selection criteria is based on need and merits as well as proximity to participating merchants. We will continue to work with a selected charity as long as the need continues.
